2004 navigator was purchased with 48000 miles. At the time of purchase I noticed the front set of tires had a very noticable bounce at 70 mph. I replaced the tires all around. Now at 70,000 miles I rotated the tires (this is about the 3rd rotation of the tires) and front set is bouncing again at 70 mph. The navigator has the air springs on it. I am suspecting the shocks are bad upfront. I would like to get opinions as to whether the anyone else thinks the front shocks could be the problem. Since the replacement shocks are available only from the dealership and they cost $400 + to replace and that does not include installation. The $400 is only for the front shocks.
Sorry I should have included the tires have been balanced 3x since they were purchased by NTB tires. Each time the tires were good for a short period of time after balancing and then the tires up front would start again with the bouncing.
It could be shocks, but usually you won't get that kind of tire bounce from a worn shock, only one with a broken stem or mount. At 70K miles how are the ball joints? Since the bouncing is exclusive to the front end, your problem is likely due to a suspension problem and not with the tire balance.
Well turns out it was the shocks. They were leaking oil. It was not readily apparent because 70% of the shock absorber fits up inside the airspring and its sealed with 2 o rings.
