94 Bronco Problem

Hello to all. I'm experiencing a problem with my truck that appears to be getting worse. I own a 1994 Bronco Eddie Bauer edition with over 185,000 miles. The trany was replaced a year ago, I've installed a new alternator and battery, and recently oil change and a fuel injection flush. Here's the problem: the only way I can describe it is it feels as though the truck is kicking. I'm not good at mechanics and everyone I ask gives me a different theory. It almost feels as though the truck isn't getting fuel correctly. The only thing I can think of is maybe it's the fuel filter, plugs, or worse the fuel pump, however, I really have no clue and any help would be kindly appreciated. Thank you in advance for all of your help everyone!!!

Whoa! First of all let us welcome you, TooTall006, to the forum. There are many great folks here who started from scratch like you and me.

To keep from our asking you what engine, etc. each time you post go to the User CP and tell us about your Bronco. Year, engine, miles, etc.

The most common reply to engine problems is "Have you pulled the codes?"
You can do it with a paper clip but I prefer a $35 digital code reader to reduce time and improve accuracy. You will find tons of great information at Ford Fuel Injection First read may be a little intimidating, but it starts to make sense over time. Initially, you will want to pull the codes from KOER and continuous memory with either the paper clip or the code reader you purchase. Then with the codes, you know where to start. Guessing and throwing parts at it could get expensive.

Next, get a manual, I have Haynes as it seems to be mentioned more frequently here.

Again, welcome to FTE.

I had a very similar kicking problem a few yrs. ago. I couldn't find any engine problems, took it to a transmission shop. The trans. wasn't the problem either. Later that day the rearend locked up leaving a stop light.
The case for the traction loc had broken on one side so when the case flexed it would bind the clutch pack. It progessively got worse until it finally came apart. But it never felt like a rearend issue.

I said 3 places you should start from (not in that order, it's just???) but from ^ it could be because if the casing with clutch plates limited/transfer bind it will kick no mater what and ^ he has had that problem there could be a weak link

New to the site this is my first post. I had the same issue with my 94. After all was said and done i found my problem to be the Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS). I ordered the part to see if that was the problem and expected to recieve in 3 days. I took mine off after three days, but no part came in. To late now, but after looking at the contacts that plug in, I saw it was kinda corroded. Stole two of my wifes fingernail files and filed them till bright and shiny again. I have not had anymore problems. Called the company about my part "they forgot to ship it". I asked can I have my money back "yes". Worked out good for me.

Here's a few pictures of my traction loc. It might not be your problem, but I wouldn't rule it out without checking.

the guy is about the codes and manuels. you can waste lots of money replacing things. dont worry its not going to be alot of money, its something external, nothing internal so dont let these guys scare you with tranmissions or rearends. it could be a fuelpump, filter, (map) sensor, (maf) sensor if equipped, (o2) sensor, cataylic converter, (EGR) valve, worse case your looking at $200.00 doing it yourself. ive had the same problem with my 94 bronco. get a manuel before anything or look under troubleshooting in your owners manuel, & 1994 is the first year that they come out with the plug in to read trouble codes so dont be surprised if you cant find the plug in. the manuel wont run no more than $20.00. hope i have gave some helpful info, & again dont let no one tell you its internal.

It could be something easy. But thats not aways the case. My Bronco had been to the Ford dealership and driven with the test equipment monitoring all the engine sensors all sensors were within spec. Then driven by transmission mechanic, that said the trans. was okay. I would have never expected the rearend.
I hope he does get out cheap.
