Im redoing the wires in my 67 f-100 and need to know what size wire to use for the brakes and turns. Also what size wires should i use to wire up an idea i had to get more power to the head lights. It would kinda be like if you had fog and driving light on your trunk. Hears a diagram i did in ms paint i forgot to draw in a fuse to each relay.
16 gauge is good enough for the rear lights. With short runs from the battery to the relays to the headlights, 14 gauge would be good enough for them, especially if you run two wires from the battery to the relays. If you run one wire from the battery and split it at the relays, 12 would be better for that setup.
Thanks for the fast relay Franklin2. What size fuse should i use for the hi beam and low beam. Im going to put it b/4 each relay so if anything happens to one i can use the other.
15 amp for each 14 gauge wire, 20 amp if you happen to use a 12 gauge wire, and 10 amp for the 16 gauge wire. If you happen to run something down the road like an electric fan, and it draws around 30 amps, then it needs a 10 gauge wire along with the 30 amp fuse.
Yes, although the insulation is probably not rated for the high temps of the engine compartment if it's indoor speaker wire. If it's good quality wire, I would pull it apart and use it.
