I had same exact code only on my '97 ranger. 87xlt right on money. I replaced the DPFE
sensor, problem solved. What sensor does is control the AMOUNT of exhaust sent back into the intake man. Very simple to replace. You should be able to see it pretty easily.
Should find it next to intake manifold. Looks like a matchbox only slightly bigger w/ electrical connector on right, two small exhaust lines coming out.
It was a while ago, my maintenance record shows 5/01 when that happened so I'm pretty sure local autozone cause I remember being in there alot around that time before I found a better place(local auto parts place, not chain). just tell them make, model etc and that you need an "egr pressure feedback sensor". I think I paid around $50 but really not sure. do remember my companys vehicle fleet guy telling me those sensors do fail after time. common in fords.
hey Roc,
no prob....found out more specific info. I actually got it at a local auto parts
store called "Daddio's" here in seymour, ct and not autozone although they'll probably be able to help you as well. I paid $56.67 back then for a "Borg-Warner" egr pressure feedback sensor. I have a couple of part#'s for you(this may be strange but I keep pretty detailed info on alot of stuff):
borg-warner: EGR155
ford motor corp: F48E9J460BB
