When my son in law painted my house, I had him replace part of the fascia board. ( I paid him for the work). It was the part over the garage, so it qualifies for this forum!
Anyway, I bought a piece of rough sawn cedar for the job, and didn't think anything more about it. He hung it up there, and it sticks out on the bottom because it didn't have a groove in it. The soffit, or whatever you call the bottom board, is supposed to fit in the groove.
Do they sell fascia boards with the groove in, or do you have to do your own? I imagine that I could rout one out, but I'd really rather just buy the board.
Router it out or use a Dado blade on the table saw. (Some of the better constructed houses used this technique.)
The Dado blade is going to be a lot faster unless you have a good router table already set up. (The router technique would take several passes, the dado can do it in one.)
