Electrical Short

Ok.....I've been swapping a 5 speed for a C6.....the other night I was working on it and I opened the drivers door....happened to see that my yellow engine light was on....not very bright...plenty bright enough to notice...I had my starter sitting on the frame near where it's mounted and the ground wire had been disconnected...well, I crawled under and let the starter hang free in the air....the light was off after that....What could be the problem? Could my solenoid be shot? How about the starter? I've had problems in the past where I would come out to start the truck and the battery would be dead....I was pretty frequent too.....There's a short, but I'll be damned if I know where...it's definitely in the starter circuit.....Thanks
