Loading up?

I have a question on my 1997 F350. When the engine is up to running temp. and I stop to run into a store for a couple of minutes, start the truck back up it acts like its loaded up. I mean lots of fuel smoke then it'll clear up and run fine after I have driven down the road a little ways. Could an injector be stuck in the open position dumping fuel into a cylinder? Bad injector O-rings? Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Justin

it could be a leaky injector, do you have any other symptoms?

It cold starts fine, but has a miss until warm. I did the CPS recall, IPR seal kit, Fuel pump & FPR reseal, went through the UVC's, repaired the VC elec. connects, CCV mod. The previous owner did a turbo and a couple of reman injectors. It was involved in a fire, so I believe the injectors were replaced as a result of that. Two of the injectors on the passenger side have burnt solenoids, they ohm out ok and seem to be firing. Could it need new seals on and in those injectors? If it melted the solenoids some it could have burnt the o-rings. Also I noticed an oil leak coming from the front of the engine up high on the cylinder head. Possibly an oil gallery plug leak? The mechanic the previous owner was taking it to obviously was not very knowledgable about PSD's. It has some blowby, but no more than other PSD's with 171k miles that I have been around. I am thinking of doing a compression test when I can track down the right adaptor. Also I have noticed a surge, very slight, but still a surge. Another thing I have noticed is that some times it idles slightly higher around 750-800 RPM on the tach and other times it is rock solid at 600 RPM or so.

I forgot to add that it has some small exhaust leaks, I think at the manifolds and possibly at the turbo.

Just my .02.
It sounds like injector o-rings possibly or the injectors are not working properly. Even though they ohm out fine is it possible for them to be malfunctioning and dumping too much fuel when it is not needed? ...Guys?
Also I would bet the exhaust leaks probably don't help the matter, although it may be insignificant.
Do you have a way to get a buzz/contribution test done. I bet that may answer some of your questions.

How old are the injectors also? May be time for new ones.

No idea on the actual mileage on these injectors. I know injectors on cylinders #1 and #7 are reman units from different companies. #3&5 have the melted plastic covers on the solenoids. I think that since it was involved in a fire that may have cooked the o-rings on everything on that side of the engine. Would it be worth getting an overhaul kit from DIY injectors? I am beginning to regret trading off my 96 F250 CC PSD for this truck, but the wife and kid wanted more room. Watta ya do?

Does anybody know of someone in my area with a scanner that will scan it for beer. I am even willing to pay with quality micro brew. Also how would you recomend to check for oring issues. Pull the valve cover? I have a guage set up for checking the high pressure oil, though the guage I have is only a 2000psi gauge.

All good advice. You HPOP gauge will be fine for start up pressures. Just not high enough for WOT testing. Duty cycle will be important as pressures could be where they need to be but only cause the IPR is working overtime due to a HPOP leakage.

Neal just got a smokin deal on an older snap-on scanner for $100. I bet he will sell it to you for $50......He's just a nice guy like that!

Also while its not under $150 the Aeroforce scan gauge is a good buy at $250. It will be paid for the second time you need a scanner.
