Just my personal opinion but i have used infinity in my last 3 vehicles and love them. I dont think that i will change. I have used pioneer, sony, and focal. the focals being the second best. and now that i have switched to components i will never use anything else in the front. i would not use component speakers all the wat around, a nice set of components in the front and some coax's in the rear for fill work well
I had Infinity Reference speakers in the car I just sold. 3.5" in the dash, 6.5" in the front doors, and 6x9s in the rear deck. They sounded awesome, I tried Polk this time in my truck because they were on sale and I kinda wish I had gotten Infinity again. The clarity in the upper end was much better with the Infinity speakers.
I agree about the clarity...You can def hear a differnence with the infinity's. I have the Kappa Perfect components in the front and just kappa coaxs in the back. But for the money i tihnk that the reference line is just as good.
I'll have to add my recommendations:
If you get the speakers from Crutchfield.com, they will provide you with VERY nice and detailed instructions on how to install. They set the standard for service.
My personal tastes are for Boston Acoustics and Polk Audio as they are more accurate. I find Infinity to tend to be just a bit overly bright in the high end - but that works out GREAT for folks who have some high frequency hearing loss - very common. But really, in this day and age, almost all NAME BRAND speakers sound pretty darned good! It's not like 20 years ago when some were good, a few were great, and some sounded like crap. To have survived, they had to consistently provide good sound.
And it is worth mentioning that installing a good 50W per channel amp makes ANY speaker sound a lot better. Prices on good moderate power amps have plummeted in the last few years. I tend towards Alpine and Rockford Fosgate as they are still US made - or at least the last couple I bought were.
I have to put my .02 in for MB Quart... I've done 2 different trucks with them now, and they are hands down the best speaker I've ever worked with. They even have a set of components that come with a 6x8 for a woofer, for those of you that are scared of cutting out door panels...
the best sounding audio systems in the world are meant to sound like all the sound is coming from in front of you. the rear speakers are only meant for rear fill. thats it... check out IASCA, you will see the best in the world there.
I have Rainbow comps in my truck and they sound great... I've also had Infinity and like them as well. If you can, power them with an amp... sounds so much cleaner and richer.
