I have gas.....

So my buddy was telling me that my truck (4.6liter) is supposed to run on regular gas. I always put medium or premium in it, and he said i'm wasting my money. It seems to run better on better gas, but that could also just be in my head....

Is the engine set up to run on the cheap stuff? I know this is in the manual, but my truck didn't come with one : (

What are ya'll running in your tanks?

Your friend is correct. Truck was designed to run on 87 octane. Anything higher is unnecessary. You'll get a lot of different opinions on this, so it'll be up to you to make that choice. Myself, I run the regular (87) and don't have any problems.

8 times out of 10, the medium or premium is lower quality than the regular because it doesn't get refreshed that often...something to keep in mind.

The only difference in octane ratings is the ignition temp. The higher the rating the higher the ignition temp. Higher octanes are used in higher compression engines. You engine was designed to run on 87 and anything else is just a waste of money. and if you do get a performance upgrade, you problably have carbon in the cylinder causing the needed higher compression.

use the 87...I use it in my F-150 and have 0 issues

my other cars require 89 and 93 octane (performance engines). I run 89 octane about every 5th or 6th tank in the F-150

If you really must spend that much more on gas...could you take the extra $5.00 per tank and just give it to me? I could use it...and your truck would never know the difference!

Back when I was in AZ I had some detonation issues (real quiet ping once in a while). To make what could be a long story short, both the advisor and the technician told me to only use 87 in the truck. Running higher octane gas didn't really make a difference in anyting but my wallet.

Unless you like spending money unnecessarily, the engine is designed for 87, running higher octane is a total waste, yielding zero results. Find a good brand of 87, and stick with it.
