first gun

Hey guys any of you ever used one of these devilbiss finishline hvlp guns? I want to paint my truck this year, probably with a single stage AE. Don't know how much I'll paint after that. Its something I'd like to do more of if I can figure out how to make it look good. I also noticed reading around that most everybody has a separate gun for primer, why is this? The gun kits I see have the larger tips included. Anyway do you think the finish line gun is good enough for my first try? Also I read a post about using local paint supply stores instead of trying to save a few bucks online and I have to agree. I went to my local Di Angelos Paint and the manager came out and got my paint codes from my vin, looked my truck over and gave me advice on primer and paint products, spraying techniques, and safety. He even went in the back and gave me an extra quart of paint he had lying around for me to practice with. Needless to say they have a new loyal customer in me. Thanks guys without this forum I never would have the guts to try painting anything myself.

I am by no means a painter, but I used the same gun for my first paint job and was very pleased with the results. So pleased in fact that I'm getting ready to paint my second and third. The advantage to having separate guns is not having to change nozzles and reset gun when switching from prime to paint to clear. Good luck, painting is the easy part, prep work makes the paint job.

I bought the Finishline 3 with two nozzles and it works fine with primer and topcoat for me. But most of the spraying has been with PPG lacquer which I tend to thin quite a bit. For the price, though, it is a decent gun.

The biggest advantage of having a separate primer gun is that if you don't get it perfectly cleaned out you wont end up with little gray specks in your new paint job.
