Alternative to "OT thread"

I think the bandwidth is one thing, the main incentive is to keep longe drawn out conversations out of thread from, to reduce the size of the database.

Just goes to show that you can't please everyone all the time. People B!tched about lots of OT threads, now they're b!tching about one. Let it be. It is what it is. Nobody's forcing anyone to click on any thread. I kind of like how it is now, personally. One OT thread instead of a quarter or half the front page loaded with them... My (not so) humble opinion.

I tried to get into the chat, the window loads for a short bit then I get a big red X. Yes I have java installed. I think I got my priveldges taken away today when the admin decided to infract me... oh well.

I get the samething Chase. We need to up date java. I have an error on my lap top hard drive so now I have to run scan disc.

The only downside I see to a chat session is the inability to come in after at the end of the day or even a couple days later and check in to see what everyone is up to. Chat may work if there were a scheduled time to be on, but that's kind of hard for everyone to get on at the same time. Take Joe for instance...he'd not be able to catch up on the conversation if we all decided to do a chat one night. I think it might accidentally exclude some people.
Kris, the point of the OT thread is to allow all of us to just shoot the bull. We all know that this 7.3 section of FTE is like no other, and a much tighter group of people. I like having the discussions in the OT thread, particularly since I don't have much to say in the way of 7.3 tech anymore. However, I do like to see how everyone else is doing. The OT thread, to me, is basically like a General Discussion sub forum in the 7.3 tech area.
