For '08 the air intake from the filter housing to the throttle body is different.
The exhaust is completely different from the manifolds back. The manifolds appear to be the same as the '05s and up.
I suspect the PCM has a different tune, but can get no confirmation on that.
My '05 seemed to have had a more aggressive shift program.
MPG between the '05 and the '08 are about the same. a solid 11 mpg average per fill up. Highest observed 15.5 on a 27 mile run. Lowest observed 8.5 empty, no trailer, into a steady 40-45 mph headwind in West Texas/SE New Mexico.
well I didnt get one mainly because of the economy, If the 6.2 is for sure gonna be the new ford gasser im gonna hold out for one of those, Thank you all who replied!!
Tom
The 6.2 is dead in the F150. It is still a go as a replacement to the V10 in the SuperDuty.
While the '08 truck is heavier (new stiffer frame, and more "quiet" steel and insullation), I see no differences in what I am getting for mileage, and what many here are reporting. In town only, I get about 10mpg. On my last highway trip, which included a week of city, I had 13.18 combined. This includes a great deal of climbing in the mountains.
My truck has the 4.10's, and currently has 2000 miles on it.
Overall I am very pleased with the economy of this truck. Driller Tom has to realize that the Ford is MUCH heavier than his Chevy, and probably always will be. However, its capabilities are also higher. Thus, no matter what engine he ends up with, the mileage will probably be lower. You just cannot overcome the laws of physics.
So the 6.2 is gonna take over the v-10? when does this happen? Will the 6 speed manual be available? I looked a the 08 fords parked my truck next to it and it was a big difference!! i know the fords are heavier than GM i just wanted to try something else some day a ford will be my future maybe when the 6.2 hits the lots!
The 08,s are indeed heavier. My 08 v10 crew cab long bed weighed in at 8,080 lbs with job box in the back of the bed. The 06 PSD crew cab long bed dually that I traded in weighed in at 8200lbs with the same job box. Pretty close weights considering the Diesel is heavier and the weight of the dual wheels and fenders.
Are you sure? I weighed my 08 F-350 dually/ 4x4 / crew cab / long bed / V-10, empty, when I first got it and I could of sworn it came in at 6650 lbs...
Hello I just joined the site and and would like some info, I currently have a 07 2500HD chevy 6.0 vortec and want to get an 08super cab long bed v-10 but my concern is mileage i currently get 17-21 on the unloaded on the highway and loaded 8-12, will the v-10 be able to get this kind of mileage? and what is the the best transmission the auto or the 6speed manual? and last which rear end ratio is the best for the v-10? Thanks in advance!!
Tom
Go with the 4.30 rear end and the torque shift auto. Both are awsome! I have a 2008 F-350 and I love it. The mileage difference between the 4.10 and the 4.30 is little to none but the grunt is very noticible.
Purchased our F-350 CC SB 4x4 about a month ago. Just love the V10!!!! Best gasser out there when it comes to pure power. Averaging about 15-16 mpg on highway.
If you do decide to pull the trigger, you won't be sorry with the performance. It is a quiet, smooth, and powerful engine. I had an 05 F-250 Crewcab 4wd and loved the V10. It is my favorite gas engine hands down. I got around 7 towing a fifth wheel and averaged 13 highway unloaded @ 65mph. I switched to a diesel in 07 as I do alot of towing in the summer and that is when they would jack up the price of gas for the vacation season. Now that the price of diesel has gone nuts I am starting to think about the V10 again.

I just don't see how you get 5 mpg better than I do on the highway How is is possible that these engines can differ that much? My mpg is at 1900 rpms approx (68 or so), one person, no load, flat roads.
