I would just replace them with jerks instead of trying to grease them. They are cheap enough. Going to do all new ones this winter when my truck is parked for the winter months.
what was suggested to me is to remove the drive shaft
and lube the splines,
supposed to be a maintenance thing.
has anyone heard of this, or done this?

yes it is very good idea...just mark the shaft on both pieces so you can put it back together and stay balanced..some guy's here also drill and add a zerk so it can be greased without taking it apart...

Yeap, Im one of those guys with a zerk fitting I put in there. Its very very important to put a small hole somewere in the boot, so you dont actually put pressure in there, because you will make it so the driveshaft will not be able to compress, it will force your pinion downward, and bind untill either a u joint breaks or it blows the boot out.
