Fuel Pressure--Again

Hi all,

I have installed a fuel pressure gauge, it is electrical and is connected to the rear of the fuel bowl, via the small accessorie bolt hole on the pass. side.

I was reading about the FPR shim, I do not believe that I need to do this mod because my gauge reads 60 psi., however, I did notice some of the writeups that people are getting their fuel pressure from the schrader valve just using tire pressure gauges. I know that's only a quickie check.

however would there be a pressure difference between the schrader valve and the pressure I'm getting from the fuel bowl?

also I think that if I did the FPR shim, adding about 20 psi, that would put me over into the danger zone and at least 80psi....

Any comments?

Thanks in Advance

use the reading from the gauge..thats what its for..60 is good..i would leave it alone...if you want to bump it up dont go over 70 PSI...she will not run right.....some trucks wont even run right at 70...

It will run fine, it may just idle a little loudly. I have adjusted my fuel pressure down to almost 0 at idle, and all the way up past 90. 90 just sounds rough, and hard on the pump. I have my external regulator Boost Referenced, i have it set at 50psi at idle, when you dont need lots of fuel the pump cruises along. But when you get up in boost, 25,30,35 psi, it adds that much fuel pressure on to it and helps you out when you need it.

If your gauge is reading 60PSI don't touch a thing. 60PSI is in spec, and is also right around were most people like their fuel pressure. Mine was set at 62 PSI, and that where my truck was happiest at. Is your pressure dropping heavy on acceleration(IE: from 60 down to 40ish)? If it is, you shimming it is not going to help, it will only cause a quicker death of the pump. Still IMO the only reason to shim the FPR is when the spring wears out it gets weaker and allows more pressure to bleed through, which results in less fuel pressure.

If you see a drop off of fuel pressure under load, how could someone make it more streamlined (IE, maintain 60PSI regardless of RPM/LOAD)??

Add a second stock pump in parallel, or upgrade to a better single pump.
