04 4R100 question

04 4R100 question

truck in signature is the problem. only issue im having is when i let off the gas in 3rd gear or maybe even overdrive, itll come out of lockup. then when i repress the accelerator, the rpms go up 250rpms then it relocks. fluid has been replaced every 25000 miles. truck has almost 60000 on it.

Normal operation unless this is something new that you noticed? AFAIK, that is how they are supposed to be on the gas motors. The diesel keeps it locked after a certain speed, but they (most manufacturers do this as well) do it on the gas ones to make it smoother and reduce the chuggle effect.

My 2003 does the same thing. Agravating isn't it. From what I can gather, tapping the brake takes it out of lock-up.

nice to know. it is annoying as all hell... i try to keep a steady pedal but everyone else likes driving with there brakes! thanks guys!

Custom tuning can fix that. TQ just don't wan't to stay locked, I agree its annoying and builds heat.

Dkf is right most custom tuning address’s this issue. Most people like converter to stay locked.

Some key things in a PCM that have an effect on a locked torque converter.
Throttle Position
Brake Input
Throttle Rate of movement In or Out
Time
Vehicle Speed



These are typical scalars in a PCM

Throttle Position to Not Unlock With Brake
Throttle Position to Open Converter at Closed Throttle
Throttle Rate to Unlock HiTP Tip In
Throttle Rate to Unlock HiTP Tip Out
Throttle Rate to Unlock LowTP Tip In
Throttle Rate to Unlock LowTP Tip Out
Time to Remain Unlocked After Brake Input
Vehicle speed Above to Remain Locked at Close Throttle

Yup, it is indeed normal - my 2001 V10 does it ... what I love is the extra kick of torque I get when the TC locks up again.
