gear ratio change

I have a 97 f250 4 door, with 5 speed manual tranny. I am considering changing the ring and pinion gears from 4.10 to 3.55 to lower the rpm at highway speed. I turn about 2600 at 70mph. I do very little towing and have a tw chip so I have power to spare. what do you guys think, where is the best place to buy the parts, can they be found used?

thanks in advance

ps... currnet is limited slip if that matters

Lots of info here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...n-my-rear.html.

It might cost less to buy a used axle. And probably a lot less work to install.

limited slip plays no role in the ring and pinion. the gears are all about personal preference. you can buy gears anywhere for them, and recently they now have an abundance of gears for the dana 50 front axles. if you are debating buyin used i would recomend just getting a whole axle drum to drum and swaping it over. it would cost less and be easier on the first timer rather then trying to set-up your rear yourself. by the time you buy a used ring and pinion... 75 bucks?? then get new bearings- 50 or 60 bucks, have someone press the bearings on for you- 15-20 bucks... well you get the idea, i thikn somebody posted whole axles are trading hands for 250-300 bucks.

if you buy new ones buy FORD gears they are only a few bucks more but setup SOOOO much better than precision gear, or genuine gear sets
