Ram trucks are currently available with up to $7,500 worth of incentives, according to Edmunds.com. That figure includes the value of low-rate financing deals as well as manufacturer-to-dealer incentives that won't be seen directly by consumers.
That's a lot of money. But keep in mind that the 2009 Ram truck will be loaded up with a slew of improvements that could make it worth waiting for, especially when you consider that those features will likely drive down the resale value of the 2008 model.
Besides optional RamBox lockable, water-tight storage bins built into the bed walls, the '09 Ram also features a revolutionary coil-spring rear suspension. Other trucks on the market have leaf-springs, which have been standard for years. Using coil springs results in a nicer ride and better handling.
The 2009 Ram also features a much-improved interior with richer-looking materials and a nice solidly-built feel, not to mention even more cleverly designed storage spaces inside to hide away more stuff.
My point here is that IF one buys a price discounted new 08' he/she are going to get an immediate "haircut" due to the newly designed units like the Ram/F-150 are ready to appear. A "haircut" indeed resale value-wise. The truck world is really taking it from all sides now.
This is nothing new. It happened on the 03-04 change for ford and it happened on the 96-97 change. its part of buying a new car and most people know that going into it.
And you think an '09 will resell for more than sticker?
Of course the value of a new '08 will go down the day you drive it out of the showroom. But so will the value of a new '09, and possibly more so in the case of the latter.
Say you buy an '08 with a sticker of $30k for $20k. As a used truck, it's probably gonna be worth $17k. And if you buy a new '09 with a sticker of $30k for, say, $27k, it will be worth $22k as a used truck. These numbers are WAG's, but based on years of watching the new/used truck/car market.
If you drive either one of them until the wheels fall off, you have $20k to lose on the '08 and $27k to lose on the '09. Which one is a better deal here?
This will be true for Fords, Dodges, etc....
George
ps--and the BEST deal here is neither a nor b, but c....a minty used 2007 truck for $14k, still under warranty, with 10k miles on it. Drive the wheels off that, and you have nearly the same service as the '09 will give you for HALF the per-mile cost. Or if you sell in a year or two, you're looking at depreciation of a grand or two per year, instead of three or four times that.
Why is everyone here so interested in the rams....if you like them that much...go buy one.....but your on a ford site so I just don't get it...
this might be the second time i agree with you but you're right. if someone is interested in a dodge, they'll go check out a dodge forum... this forum is about the '09 F150... anything about dodge, gm, toyota, or nissan should go in the Ford vs. Competition forum...
get with the program guys. the heading says '09 F150... i don't come in here to read about a dodge or anything else!!!!!!
the reason everyone talks about the ram and the tundra is because there more powerful trucks, but imo there not better than the ford..(except for cummins
Ive been following the 09 thread for awhile and kinda wonder why it didnt get moved.

You got er man. Theres a specific forum for comparing different brands. Why arent these getting posted in the right places? If they do get posted, why arent they being moved?
Im all in for comparing different brands, even in a ford specific forum, but there are places on this site just for that.

You couldn't be more correct on that statement. There are tons of cheap 06's and 07's with low miles and remaining factory warranty's that will provide many years of reliable service. My '88 very handily does what a truck is supposed to do.
I'm having a hard time getting too excited about tailgate steps, retractable bed steps, water tight bed containers, coil springs and 380 HP, blah, blah, blah. That stuff is all well and good, but, will I get 20+ years of service out of it? My bare bones '88 with old fashioned 4x4, 5 speed and a/c still does what a new truck will do.
I post about non F-150 because it ain't out yet. The competition is coming out with their new 09's, Ford is NOT. My point is Ford better get off their duff before the world passes them by. There is NO news on the 09' F-150. Because it does not exist. So what are we supposed to talk about? The weather? No, the 09's F-150's competition? Yeah that sounds pretty logical to me UNTIL Ford introduces it's newest F-150. Then we'll talk about it.
If you click the link on the upper left of the homepage that says forums, then click list, it will show the whole list of forums this site has. About 3/4's of the way down, in the general section, there is a forum called ford vs the competition.
These threads are left in here because the webmaster said so.
This will help when Ford people read these forums to find out what customers are looking into.
