68 F100 with 390.what is the correct clutch size for this truck? right now its got a 10 inch clutch which bolted right up to flywheel, but have had chatter problems in reverse.i want to fix this issue & have been told its the wrong size clutch. been told a 10, 11, 11.5 and a 12 inch is the right fit. which is it?and will they still bolt to same flywheel. somebody state the right facts for this stump puller! also have been looking at the hays clutch kits .anybody had luck with these.the kits from auto zone are garbage.
I had a 12" clutch in a '72 390 truck that I sold. In fact, I have a brand new 12" pressure plate, disc and T.O. bearing in my garage for the truck that I sold. Shipping would be a killer.
Hays is an ok clutch....IMO not the best... I've had really good performance out of the McCleod clutch and pressure plates. Clutch selection has a lot to do with what you are using the truck for, how much horsepower and torque your putting out, and how much $$$$$ your willing to part with... Ram is also a good street type clutch, ran one in an FE powerd Mustang and was very pleased with it.... Both Ram and McCleod have very knowledgeable and helpful techs on their tech lines.....
Geeze the clutches for these are friggin' pricey! Napa's is $200, Checker wants $320, a Centerforce is $420. LMC carries two kinds, one for $200, and one for $240. I don't know what the brands are other than the Centerforce, but I would hope that ALL of them are made in the USA, otherwise I'd find it pretty much outrageous if they came from overseas or Meheco.

Not a bad price by today's standards...The McCleod Soft-Lok going in my Ranchero is a tad over $1600.00, it's an update of the old Ram dual disc that runs about $1100.00....Quality doesn't come cheap and as you add horsepower the $$$$$ requirements for the driveline parts gets higher, too....
