hey guys i havnt posted in a long time and am sorry about that. I have a question about the exhaust temp. What is around normal im asking cause mine seems high but maybe it isnt its running around 750 800 cruising at aroung 65 70 is that about right .I pulled my boat this weekend and it wouldnt go under 900 never went much higher even when on it. I do have my chip on 40 towing if that maters any info would b great
Mine is about the same, maybe 650-800 cruising unloaded @ 65 (setting the cruise @ 65 really helped my fuel milage) and 1100-1200 pulling grades with the top hauler. I usually run B-20 bio diesel.
sorry to hijack but my egts dropped by about 100* across the board when I started running B100 biodiesel. does this sound right?
That's a good observation, it could be due to bio having a lower therm rating or power output as compared to the same amt. of diesel being burned. In other words it take more bio fuel to produce the same amount of energy that dino will put out. So it would seem to make sense that your EGTs would be a little lower.
Tell us a little more about your setup. Open exhaust or stock, intake mods or stock? All will make a differance as will the size of your boat. When I tow my 21ft bass boat rig @ about 3500#, I have to really get on it hard to get over 1000*. I usually run 6-7 cruising at 65-75, 8-9 on grades and maybe hit 1100 if I really get on it hard. Now with my 8500# TT I can hit 1200# on a grade fairly easily.
Used a friends 02 550 this past weekend. The egt runs around 900 continously and will go to 1400 on long grades.I questioned him about this and he said it has always been this way.the 900 I can deal with but the other seems way to hot for me.He has owned the truck since new anr regularly pulls a 32 foot horse trailer with living quarters and has never had any engine issues.
