tranny trouble

My father-in-law has a 97 F-250 Powerstroke with 290K on the ticker. He was pulling home his race car trailer and the tranny let go about a 1/2 mile from his house. He went to Ford and got a new tranny and TC. Installed it last night and the OD light flashes and it shifts harder than it ever has. You can actually feel it downshift. Anyone have any suggestions?? Thanks

sounds like something was left unplugged. its in failsafe mode which equates to max line pressure.

did it do this as soon as you fired it up and started driving?

get the codes read, and then reset them, see if it clears up.

X2 with joe.
Clear the PCM and test run it.
It could be still in limp with the new unit.

Get the codes read. Autozone isn't capable of reading Ford transmission codes. It's stalling because the torque converter is on in reverse. Knowing what codes are stored would help with the diagnosis.

Low trans fluid can cause stalling in reverse.

Did you backflush or replace coolers and lines?
As mark stated codes will help.

I am having a similar issue with my 95 psd. I bought it with the trans torn out of it, so I had it replaced, and noticed that it does down shift kinda hard now, and is starting to actually bark the tires when it changes into any gear, even at low throttle.

I tried to read codes today, but with my scanner all I got was (po107) map sensor...
