That little screw up in the modulator, when you turn that, does it change the shift points like when going from 1st, 2nd, 3rd or the shifting point when going into passing gear & changing back out of passing gear back into 3rd.
Thanks Neil
the modulator will lengthen the upshifts (part throttle too) when you turn it clockwise because it puts more tension on the internal spring making it seem that there is less vacuum to it which holds shifts out further due to low engine vacuum under heavy load, the kickdown rod or linkage from the carb to trans will control downshifts and raise line pressure in the trans to handle more torque input from the engine in heavy throttle cases. they are very critical to the trans for controlling shift points and line pressure.
ive tried changing complete distributers / cap rotor / wires. fuel filters, checkd fuel pressure, tried timing in various postions. even when i go out, do a brake stand in 1st gear to the floor, it hits that 3thuo range n starts to stumble. but on a dry rev "in neutral" itll rev past 4.
i didnt realize it stumbles. i agree on the fuel starving. check float level in primaries and secondaries if its a holley. needle and seat could be stuck or a restriction in the flow somewhere.
i have 7psi right at the carb. mech pump on engine. truck runs the same with a 800 DP holley or 600 vac 2ndary holley. truck is under a foot of snow, n 2.5 feet around it. so a couple weeks i might get it out. pressure isnt a issue, volume might be.
