horible shake

Hey, I have a really bad shake coming from the front end of my truck, took it to a dealership and they claimed there was nothing wrong. Nor could I visibly see any problems but between about 45-60 it will shake like hell. Any suggestions?

get your tires rotated and balanced

if that doesn't solve it, get your driveshaft balanced

a vibration in a specific MPH range is 99% of the time due to a out of balance tire. I once spent almost $300 chasing a bone jarring vibration from 55-60 mph. Ended up being the right rear tire had thrown a wieght. $5 later and vibration was gone.

I'm getting shaking at about the same speeds as you. But this started after i had my new tires and wheels installed. The owner of the tire shop said since i have oversized tires 305/65/18, that shaking is normal at those speeds. I'm very pissed off that he insist's this is normal because that has to be BS!! So now i have to spend more money somewhere to get it done right.

If you are going to your tires balanced, ask if they have a "Roadforce" balancer. It actually simulates road contact and gives a really good balance job.

that is

unless you bought some cheap no name rims...or cheap crappy rubber

plenty of people are running 35" + tires with 0 issues.

sounds like your tire guy just doesn't have the equipment or experience to balance what he sells

Shaking update

Ok well i just got back from the tire shop, they called me this morning and told me to come back in and they will try to rebalance the tires. They ended up doing the front tires, and just retorking the back ones. The good news is that the truck seems to ride a lot smoother now, the steering wheel is not going crazy like it was before. The only problem now is that the back tires seem to be shaking, i can feel it in the seat at higher speeds. So one problem was fixed and another created, unless i just didnt notice the back end shaking because the front was so bad.

So could the back end shaking now be a balancing issue as well? Should i call them back yet again and ask them to rebalance my back wheels too? This place is not going to like me lol.<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message -->

Ball joints

Hey guys, I had the same issue on my '05 for about 35 to 40,000 miles until I replaced the factory lower balljoints. They had a little play in them that kept throwing the tires out of balance. Balancing the tires is a temporary fix, I did that a couple of times but the shakes kept coming back. Replaced the lower balljoints and have been shake free for 60,000 miles or so.

alright, the tire balancing did not do much for me and the lower ball joints are fine.
Anyone know of a place in Lynchburg, va that balances drive shafts?

I'm still having trouble with mine, i brought it to another shop and i'm still getting the shaking. I have a feeling these places are just not balancing them right. I talked to someone that was in the tire business for 17yrs, and he told me that with after market alloy rims, you have to balance them a little different then normal. And that you should only put stick on weights on the inside and that it. He said people make the mistake of putting stick on weights on the inside, and then the bang on weights on the outside. Which is how mine is done. One of my tires has a ridiculous amont of weights on it, while the other 3 have barely any. I had them check the tires and the rims seperate and they both seem fine. So i'm just at a loss, i need to find a damn shop that knows what they are doing. Or just throw my stockers back on and sell my new wheels and tires.
