exhaust question

Iam getting a flowmaster exhaust kit from magnum exhaust in about a week or so it says I do not have to weld the kit together just the tips on but I have a 2007 screw 4x4 should I weld the whole system together or just use the clamps? I do use the truck on some mild back roads will the clamps vibrate loose and fall off or are they enough?
thanks everyone

I say weld it. Then you dont have do worry about exhaust leaks.

my Maggie kit has been installed for about 20,000 miles now with the clamp setup

still is as tight as the day I installed it...but it isn't a seemless seal. I have a very slight exhaust leak on the frontside of the muffler.

I've thought about welding it up, but right now the cost of welding doesn't make it worth it

same here with my flowmaster, slight leak when cold before the muffler, i would tack the pipes just to make them stay put.

So how much did you save over an exhaust shop true dual setup? I found that you don't save very much by buying a boxed system and you don't get the system welded which usually means leaks. This is especially true with Flowmaster. Their systems are aluminized steel, the Magnaflow is stainless steel and most shops don't used stainless steel tubing. My true dual setup was a custom bent and welded system with the Flowmaster and tips was $345. It also came with a warranty.

technically none....I've had 3 (actually 4, 1 truck done twice) custom setups "created" for me since 2002.

on the flip side, I bought Maggie kit #16614 based on FTE's recommendations. I loved it so much I went and bought the Maggie Magnapack for my Mustang GT.

Custom exhausts are just that...custom. If you buy a full out engineered exhaust, you get the benefit of the R&D these companies have done.

IMO, Gibson and Magnaflow rule this area of the market. Their stuff is truly bolt on, and the quality of the product is above and beyond anything you can get locally that is custom made.

for me, the below are my custom jobs:
1. Mustang GT: $380 ish for a custom catback using no-name muffler
sounded okay...but the pipeing was aluminized and I wasn't truly happy with the sound. very run of the mill and boring
2. 1993 Bronco:
$450 the first time for a custom dual exhaust. Did a Midas "Raven" muffler with aluminized piping.

$150 the 2nd time was to swap out the muffler and a small section of pipe I had crushed while 4x4

was never happy with the exhaust in either case. it just didn't sound that good
3. 1994 F-150: $400 for another custom dual exhaust
went with a no name shop this time based on all my bud's recommendations. and you guessed it, aluminized piping. this time sounded okay at least. and the price included 2 chromed tips.
Magnaflow:
1. 2006 F-150: $470 shipped to my door
installed in my driveway. I've been happy with it since the very first start-up. Nice rumble and the piping is SS. I have 1 very small exhaust leak. But it is under the bed, so there is no reason to have it welded since there is no danger in the CAB of the truck
2. 2003 Mustang GT: $350 shipped to my door
The Magnapack is f'ing wicked. I love that exhaust. It is what every Muscle car should sound like. A snarling beast. and SS pipes/mufflers to boot. A better quality product and same price as a custom job.

I Did Not Weld My Exhaust Either (roush ). Seems Like There Is A Small Leak But Being In Southern California I May Need To Put The Stock Exhaust Back On For The Eventual "modified Exhaust/no Front License Plate/tinted Windows" Standard Ticket. I May Go Back And Put Some Lock-tite To Help Prevent Anything Loosening Up. My Only Other Worry Would Be Theft Since Again Socal.

Yeah you dont have to weld it but a lot of muffler shops you may take it to weld it up
