The way you stated this (above) seems to be confusing. Were the original head "bolts" replaced with high strength head "studs" or were bolts put back in? ARP studs are the most common upgrade, but you can go with a higher strength stud - H11's. Make sure you are told "specifically" what will be re-installed. There is no such thing as an upgraded head bolt (FYI).

Perhaps he meant bolts have been replaced for a new factory bolts just that he mistakenly called them "studs"?

bismic,

I had my head gaskets done last year. All is good so far 8k and still crossing my fingers. You mean there has not been ANY new developments or changes in the bolts/fasteners or head gaskets to prevent these problems in the future?

The gaskets are only slightly different to accomodate the "commonization" to the new block. The bolts are the same. Early on, there were torquing problems from the assembly line on some engines. I would believe all dealership shops have this down pretty well by now. Sadly, it is still a weak point if turbo vanes stick, or if egt temps get too high, or if SOME tuners create very high cylinder pressures.

Both of those will help prevent the vanes from sticking. It is also suggested that you "drive it like you stole it" to help prevent em from sticking......

Today they call me and say that they have to bring in someone high up from ford to inspect motor and approve warranty work. Does that sound common or am I fixing to get the shaft because of programer ?

That didn't happen when I had my gaskets repaired under warranty and I was using a programmer......

So Im probably going to have to shell some money out of my own pocket.
Truck isnt under factory waranty anymore .Its under the ESP or something like that so maybe its an outside service that has to come in to check things out . Either way it doesnt seem good .
Keeping fingers crossed.

i think that if there is any warranty work that has to be done that will cost over like $3K has to be approved by someone who doesn't know anything. as far as finding evidence of a tuner from the engine you have to have been running a pretty hot tune for a while in order for the star to show up on the piston. it doesn't just show up after a mile or two and it doesn't show up on lower HP tunes.

That doesnt sound good either. I have always run my stage 3 tune on tuner . Not always a heavy footer but run that tune becuase that seems to be where the best fuel economy is . I guess you live and learn . just not looking foward to the giant bill when they viod waranty. If this thing gets fixed its staying stock.

if you do end up having to pay for the work or even if they warranty it have them put studs in for you and then you can keep running your tune and not have to worry about your head gaskets again. that is one of if not the best reliability mod you can do to these trucks.

Just got back from dealer . Everything has been approved and repair process is underway. Only thing is I will not be putting arps in. But tech says they are using different bolt and has not seen problem with them yet. Dont really know if thats true or not but I purchased 7 year 200000 mile waranty to be certian that if this ocurs again I will be replacing with ARPS. Tech siad if I bought studs they would install and still waranty but with this other head bolt there would be anymore bolt issues.

well will see !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I can get another 90000 miles
