Here we go !!!!!

Drove to the dealer today.
After noticing coolant coming out of bottle and that tea kettle whistle
I figured I should better take it in . After all 1500 more miles and warrenty is done. Did not get to speak with a tech but the service manager acted like he had already heard of the symtums I was discribing. He said could be EGR cooler or a number of other things. hopefuly this doesnt get too exspensive.

if it's still under warranty then it'll only cost you $100. if not then you better sell a kidney...

Hopefully (if you still have warranty) you don't get hassled about the missing cat. I think your OK removing the muffler. The cat is deemed emissions equipment. Emissions equipment that has no efect on anything else but what comes out the tail pipe, but some dealerships are easier to deal with than others.

so i take it you have just gutted the kitty so it looks like it's still there? if thats the case you have nothing to worry about. they aren't gonna say anything about the missing muffler since it has nothing to do with emissions or any thing else other than the sound of your truck. you have nothing to worry about. just fork out the 100 bucks and give em a good game tap then tap your way out the door.

oh and if they are gonna have to replace the head gaskets then see if they will install ARP's.

Mine had a similar problem about a month ago. The only difference is mine only showed up while towing. Coolant boiling over, fan on almost all the time and no power. It wasn't the heads....yet. But they changed the EGR and oil coolers. Did some pressure tests and some other stuff with injectors. The truck seems to have its power back and it tows much better now. I'm still skeptical about the heads and something tells me I'm not done with this yet.

just got oasis report back . turns out its already had studs replaced. so if this is the same issue again I will deffinently request ARP head studs. Also the turbo has been replaced , EGR valve ,Y pipe on exhuast and all kinds of updated recalls as far as computer up dates.

Believe it or not, others have fixed the problem by running their coolant to the MINIMUM line in the bottle.

For some reason, some 6.0s don't want any more than that in the bottle...or it'll puke it back.

I've got an 03 and have not had a single problem with mine and I keep mine at that minimum mark.

There's a TSB on that filling the coolant bottle to the minimum. I've always done that. When you have a coolant problem, it'll puke coolant anyway.

Yea I ve noticed mine to appear empty when truck is cold .But after warmup coolant will come up to min line. So I would say dont check level until truck is in opperating range.

I checked my coolant level again last night and I seem to be losing it again. It not leaking anywhere and I've already had both oil and EGR coolers replaced. I'm not getting any smoke or power loss yet, but something ain't right again. At least I've still got warranty.

Talked to dealer today . They said yep, your gona get new head gaskets and studs.
I started to ask questions to service manager but quikley realized that I need to talk with tech who is working on it. She siad that was no problem . They acted like there was a replacement stud that is supposed to be the solution for this problem. Well see so meanwhile the tear down has commenced.
