my kitty is gutted and have a straight thru muffler 4" added 1-1.5 mog with just the straight muff about 2 mpg overall. The right foot like to make the ears happy but if you drive the same as before mpg'd will improve 1 - 2 mpg. I would not reinstall the muffler if I ever took it off. Sounds around town are a little louder but not obnoxious and the whistle of my 03 is mint
I initially installed a 4" turbo back system without the cat. I subsequently removed the muffler a week later and was able to increase the turbo whistle. While idling, it sounds throaty. Dont notice too much drone; due to increase in radio volume....
Just take it off.
If you don't like it, bolt it back on.
Unbolt it from the flange in front of the muffler and let it drop. Takes 15 minutes to do. It is easier to wiggle it out if you drop the spare first. Take it for a drive to test it out. It is one of the few free mods you can do.
Been running mine with no muff or cat for 55k miles. Sounds the same when cruising, sounds good when you mash the pedal.
I deleted the cat and the muffler and gained 4.5 mpg the same day I did it!!! The turbo whistle is pretty bad though.
That sounds cool!! I live in Las Vegas, NV and the CAT is required for emissions so I can't remove it. I guess I could but I don't want the hassle of taking it off... putting it back on again. I have pretty good turbo whistle stock but more would be better!!
stock muff delete pipes only come in aluminzed steel no stainless (as far as ai ever found). there is a technique that you could have done or do your self . If you find the walker big truck muffler online there are install instructions for it if you follow them and simply use straight stainless instead of the muffler then you are golden. Its quite simple actually.
I went to summit bought a 4 foot section of 3.5 inch pipe welded it on to my stock exhaust pipe in place of the muffler cost 25.00 dollars and a 30 pack of budwiser for me and my friends who helped me install it! I also removed the Cat and gutted it out. Then Reinstalled it with no problems. Gained a few more MPG and a lot more turbo whistle!
