I guess if you take care of stuff it can seemingly last forever.
Now that I've jinxed myself it'll blow-up tomorrow.

I don't hate the GM diesels but they are just not in the same league with the big boys. I am thinking about getting a donor and putting a mechanical 6.5L turbo in my '70 GMC ext. cab 4wd. It'd be kinda cool.
Since I warned everybody it had nothing to do with IDIs.....does antbody know when GM started puttin 4L80Es in the diesel trucks?
I swear I won't ask another Chevy question for a few months atleast!
I also swear not to like GM diesels better than IDIs. I don't think that promise will be hard to keep!

So, A dodgeman that loves cummins comes to a Ford forum and loves to talk about chevies.
As for chevys, I love their ck truck style. I hate to say this here, To me its the best looking style truck out there. Thats Why I got and kept mine. I wouldn't mind Having an IDI in it either.
But I was never big on their diesels though. I think there is a reason that they were never very popular. Actually, I have an original 1995 CK pickup brocure (in brand new condition in fact.). If you look at the payloads and power, the 350 tbi is better than their diesel!!! And the engine cost a lot less!!!

The 6.5 diesel 1 ton truck (reg or crew cab) has a max rated trailer weight of 8,000lbs.
The 350 in the same truck is 9000 lbs and with the 7.4 ltr its 10,000lbs. Thats 2,000 more than their diesel from the factory. Wonder why. Here some of the info for it.

Gassers
262 had 160hp and 237 lb feet torque
305 had 175hp and 265 lb feet torque
350 had 200hp and 310 lb feet torque
454 had 230hp and 385 lb feet torque

diesels
6.5 had 155 hp and 275 lb feet of torque. (thats what the 305 nearly had) Ours has 85 more lb/feet torque.
6.5 turbo 190 hp and 385 lb feet of torque. (thats nearly ours without a turbo!!!)
7.3 N/A is what? 180 hp and 360 lb feet torque
7.3 turbo is 190 and 385 lbfeet of torque. (just like GMs) Our factory turbo setup wasn't that good.
7.3 aftermarket banks turbo (260 hp and over 500lb feet torque) The same banks kit won't even help the 6.5 near this much!!! I have that borsure but not with me.

I don't know, I never liked fords, was always a chevy man. Nothing personal, its just my whole family owned ford trucks so I wanted a chevy. (although I will drive whatever runs and don't care who made it and what it looks like). But these IDIs grew on me quick. I never thought I would ever buy a ford but since I have, I actually would have a very hard time parting with it.

Man, Could this get any more off topic.

Oh ya, The 7.3 Dry weight is 900 LBS

I think the 4L80Es started in 1990.
