I am pulling the heads off of my 63 F-250 4x4 w/292. I tried the old trick of dollar bill in front of the tailpipe, if it sucks it in, supposed to be a burnt valve. And of course it runs crappy, had 2 plugs fouled ugly, one on each side.
So,,, there I was,,,, down to the left head (pass. side) and pulled 10 bolts and no go,,, am I missing some, 1, ??
Any other helpful hints while doing this also?

Sometimes they can be VERY stuck. A month ago a out of vehicle motor I was taking apart had both heads stuck. I attached a motor hoist to one head and lifted, but the entire engine was suspending. So positioned the hoist and motor barely above some blocks, and took a 2 1/2 foot rod stuck into the crossover port. With one foot on the opposite side of motor and a lot of upward pressure on the rod, the head finally popped free.
Yes, 10 bolts. If someone puts on a steel gasket with somthing like Copper Coat gasket sealer, they really seal. The pry bar I mentioned into the crossover shouldnt be tried without at least a helper, preferrably the hoist, and there is always the concern of cracking something. In my case I didnt know anything else to do.
Perhaps a hydraulic pushoff could be arranged into one cylinder via sparkplug. Depending upon the pressure needed I expect that could bend a rod.
It was pretty amazing the force required to remove those two heads. 550 lb motor suspended from the head to be removed, and at least 50 lbs upward pressure on a 2 foot plus lever.
Thanks, I will try again tonight, I am pretty sure it is the original head gasket, truck has 97k on it, was a ranch truck around here locally. I am doing this in the truck, so it is a bit more difficult. Thanks Again!
Man o man, got the crow-bar out, had it in the exhaust port, pushed up, and there it came! It wouldn't even budge from the intake side!! Exhaust side, no problemmo!
