building a flatbed on my pickup (replacing the rusty stock bed) and I'm trying to figure out how to do the lights (78 F150 4x4).
I'm thinking an LED light assembly would be cool. I'm going to mount them into a wood board running across the back of the bed.
Questions at this point:
1) Has anyone used any of those $20 replacement 1157 style LEDs that plug into a normal fixture? Any good?
2) Have any sources for LED lights with lens assemblies that can be mounted into a wood board?
3) Is there any way I can separate the Brake/Taillight/turn signal function so I can put the turn signal on a separate bulb from the tail/brake lights? I know I can't separate them in the back, so I'm wondering if I can run some new wires from somewhere up front ...
Your brake light circuit is fed from the brake light switch on the brake pedal. From the brake switch it is fed up into the turnsignal switch. This is where the brake lights and turn signal lights are combined. If you found the switched wire coming off the brake pedal switch, and separated it from the harness and ran a new separate wire to the rear, this would seperate the brakes from the turnsignals and let you run separate bulbs.
I often toyed with the idea that if I was to make custom taillights, I would go to a junk yard and rob the center led lights out of the spoiler of cadillacs and hondas. Some other cars may have them too. What I notice the most about these led lights is they are a rich cherry red compared to regular lights.
