Looking at my 54 it appears that the front clip is attached to the rest of the truck by a some bolts from the front fenders to the cowl and 2 under the rad support. Is it missing something? That doesn't seem like much. Mine squeaks alot too.
Yup that is pretty much all that holds the front clip on...... the U shaped rad support has the two bolts in it and everything else kind of hangs off it....then the 8 or so bolts to the cab at the back......... mine was real squeaky as well but it was the inner fenders rubbing on the frame and the front suspension........ my 53 has a Volare clip so I had to trim the fenders around the upper A arms and the frame and the squeaks were gone....
I just went out and looked and there are ten bolts on each side holding the fenders and inner fenders to the cab. So that is 20 bolts at the cab + the 2 under the radiator. The cab and front clip pretty much float on the 2 swing arms at the back, 2 rubber mounts at the front cab corners, and the rubber mount at the radiator support. Thats because of all the frame flex when going over rough terrain.
No I don't have those rods. Is there a picture of those somewhere? I also have Mustang 2 IFS and new leafs in the back. I was just watching Trucks this am, they said that urethane bushings really squeak with no grease. I have no zerks on my back leafs (TCI product). I wonder if that may be a source of some squeaks. I think that they are coming from several sources including the front clip. I am going to look into those support rods too, thanks fellas.
I dont mind my own blood shed but the boys thats something else! Makes the wife ok with them in the garage. As you can see by the lost bay for there toys.
