Trailer recepticle connector replacement

Our 2001 Expy with the 7 pin trailer recepticle has had the trailer plug retaining tab, on the spring-loaded flap, broken off.

Now the plug can fall out of the bumper connector.

Ford is telling me that I have to buy the whole assembly, including the pigtail.

I've taken the recepticle off the mtg bracket and found the pigtail is removable from the 7 pin connector so the 7 pin connector is all I want to purchase.

I.e. I don't want to buy another pigtail, just the final connector that attaches to the bumper/hitch with 4 screws.

Anyone look into this before and have info?

Ours also broke. Ford charged me something around $90 for the connector and IIRC it does come with the pigtail that plugs into a connector on the frame. They have been on backorder since May though.

I would check with Etrailer.com as I purchased the 7 pin connector for my 97 that had only a 4 pin.

Most trailer and rv shops will sell you just the 7 pin head. Good luck.

Try NAPA, Pep Boys, Auto Zone etc. Most of the connectors are made by Pollak, which are available almost anywhere. Bring your old one to match up.

If no luck at auto parts store, try an rv store or boat shop, a lot of them have a lot of trailering accessories.

You can always try walmart. That is where I got a replacement plug for my Expy. The wiring should plug right into the existing wiring. I had to attach the blue wire (brake power) another wire underneath. If you need further help, let me know and I can check later exactly what wire I tapped into (its pouring down rain at this present time). Good luck,
Scott

ebay, the 08 superduty plug is much nicer and wiring is plug and play. plus you have both the 7 pin and 4 pin with a nicer spring loaded flap. Guy in Indiana is selling new take offs for $30.
