After installing power steering and booster for brakes, my old trustworthy has thrown me a curve. The cam is broken into. Looking for suggestions on whether to go to another size engine without whole lot of trouble. Would like to use the same power steering pump since I just bought it. I could replace the cam, but I m afraid I could never trust it. Engine has 126,000 miles on it.
Ideas please!! (just realized I put this in wrong forum....That s OK tho.)
I wholeheartedly agree.
You have a 390 block already! Bore it out .010 over, and rebuild it as a 390 that's 10 over.
You will need a different crankshaft, different rods and different pistons. Possibly different wrist pins, but probably not. Of course, a new timing set, cam and lifters will be needed no matter what you do.
You can use the same block and heads, and everything already on there will bolt back on exactly the way it came off.
Glad to hear from you NumberDummy. Wondered if there was anybody else out there my age group. Been enjoying your threads.... Looking forward to more.
Thanks
Harold

Prior to you signing on, there were 9 older members than myself (there was a thread on this topic last year). Dono is the oldest, born in 1935.
There's another member here in this thread that was born when HST was prez (un-elected first term), but I'll pass on telling you who it is.
