cant find it on google, so im gonna ask here; what are the limits of the 351? or should i say what stroker kit is gonna give me reliability in low-rpm truck use? My book "big inch small block fords" says the 427 is really great low rpm because of torque, but i hear it will make the block suffer with the added stroke and grinding of the block to make everything fit.
393? 408? what is a cheap safe stroker for reliability/towing from summit racing? (summits down the street, so im using them to buy from)
also what block will be the best for daily driving/towing? im thinking of using a newer roller block and the E7 heads to keep and port out.
E7 heads! Wow.. you're talking a really low rpm motor aren't you. You won't have any problem with any of these strokers in this application, the 5.8 block is plenty strong for 500HP applications of all types as long as the rotating assembly is upgraded to match. I personally would not bore the block any more than it needs.. say 30 over max, that will limit you to the smaller stroker displacements.
yea, not much of an engine im building, just to get me to school n back and possibly tow a boat to the lake with a little fun in the mix like playing in the sand till i get stuck , its a '81 f150 2wd, not much i can do with it so its gonna be a daily driver. Maybe i'll upgrade to AFR's later in the game.
Depending how much work and or parts you need for your rotating assembly, a stroker kit might be as cheap as 351W parts. As you probably know the 393 is a 351w bored .030 over and can be made with a 3.85 stroke crank, stock 351W rods and 302 pistons for an extreme budget stroker. Either the 393 or the 408 are both good torque motors (haven't you read chapter 5?), and for what you want you just need a budget kit. You don't even want to mess with the 427.The SCA-1-94205 Scat stroker kit would be a good one from Summit and a good deal considering it has forged pistons. With the E7TE heads, it might have a streetable CR.
