My buddy has a 12v cummins Dodge that wont start. I realize this is a powerstroke forum, which is what I have and it runs, but just looking for a little advice to help him out. What happened was he was jumping another car, got it started, took the cables of the car and handed him to his wife and drove off. She then proceeded to set them down and went in the house. Needless to say they welded together and the truck was still running. When he shut it off it it would not start again. It cranks but will not fire up. Any ideas what fried.
So... the dodge body and frame melted to the ground and the cummins engine itself will not start? Hmmm....try putting the cummins in a new truck, its pretty hard to destroy.
On a serious note, go over all of the fuses and realys with a fine tooth comb, pcm diode etc..... all relays. If he is lucky he only fried a hand full of fuses, if hes not lucky, he fried the pcm. The batts are probalbly ok, they would have signs of self destruction if bad, load test and replace if necessary.
I Never, Never, give someone a jump start with my engine running. With the electrical systems and electronics on modern vehicles, you're only asking for trouble. If the dead vehicle doesn't start right up, then they need more than a jump start. Also if accidents happen such as this case. less damage is done.
if there any thing like a PSD..it will spinn over like nothing..but if just one battery is week..she wont fire....the PSD needs every amp from both batts before it will start..
