Wow I about fell out of my chair when I read that!
Some times it pays to get off of active duty. I was released on medical in '05 (acl and mcl tear, at the same time). Did that for a couple years and now work at the 1st Helicopter squadron at Andrews.
All in all, I wish I was able to get back in though. It's rough. I can't even join the ANG.
Hope you will still have access to FTE. Always enjoy your posts and comments.
Good luck on your journey.
As for my wife driving my truck, I couldn't keep her out of my V10, but she does not
like my diesel, the sound or the smell, and hardly ever drives it.
Yes, I asked the company contact about my itinerary, I was informed I would be going to the CRC in Columbus, not NC as previously informed.
Pay is in line with what you got, probably a bit less. There are hints and "carrots on string" about a 2nd year bonus, promotion, raise and all that happy BS but I will see about making it through the first year before I decide on a second year.
Thanks for the tips. I'll print that and carry it with me. Cell phone sounds like a good idea, if it will work at Bagram.
It will work in Bahgram. I was there in 2001 when everything kicked off. I hear it's nice now but still a bowl of heat. Surrounded by mountains and holds the heat in.
Just for the record, most people hit that 90k mark and leave. I should have but got greedy.
No way she'd be driving it (the girlfriend). I've seen how she drives her car and it scares me. Usually shes either texting someone or playing with her ipod all while driving with her knee on the steering wheel about 10 over the speed limit. Last time she drove it home from the store, she was wandering back and forth, braking at the last second. That had me stomping on the imaginary passenger side brake pedal. I now have a new respect for the driver training teachers at the school I work at.

My wife said if I can stand this for two years, I can quit working and we'll live off of her income. We'll have all of the bills, car/truck payments and the mortgage paid off.
She's your wife. You should feel honored she asked your permission.
Exactly, when i read this thread, I actually laughed.
OP, This is not some stranger, this is a woman that you married for better or worse.
Think about that.
It's important to be able to trust her with your life and your possessions.
If not, whats the point of marrying her then.

That, my friend, is tempting.
Get it in writing. Funny how they can remember and be mad about something you did 20 years ago, but conveniently forget other things.
Getting all the bills and mortgage paid off sounds like a great opportunity. I wish you the best for the next year or two.
Here's a suggestion - if she hasn't been a part of the service/maintenance process at your local dealer take her there and introduce her to the service manager. I've had a couple of bad experiences when I didn't do this where my wife felt she was being talked down to because she's a woman. Let her build some trust with the service department before you go so there's no concerns get the truck serviced/fixed.
Now that is good, solid advice. I'm lucky enough to have a non-chain oil change place in my hometown who generally employs good quality people. I'd take her to the dealer (god forbid serious stuff) and maybe a cheaper place to get regular maintenance done.
i will be leaving on a 6 month deployment in january, and my wife will be driving my 350 along with her 250. problem is, she gets alot of looks from other guys driving my truck. i guess i can't hate her for that. she is even going to take it and get a brand new paint job on it for my homecoming present!
