new to the forum and was wondering what problems I will have with replacing my original engine in my 97 heavy duty with one from a 99 to 2003. my main worries are fuel delivery and electrical? can anyone help?
There are some signifigant differences between the 99.5-2003.25 7.3 and your 97. The early 99 is closer but still different.
This is what I know and there is more.
97 Mechanical lift pump in valley, 99-03 electric on frame
97 has around 90-100cc injectors, newer has 110-120 (they're bigger is what matters)
Different turbo
Different harness'es
Different computers
Obviously the newer one is intercooled, but that isn't that big a deal
For the most part if you were to change out all the injectors, I think it would be a direct swap. Although I'm not sure about the fuel pump. I don't think the newer engines even have provision for that, so you would have to wire in a fuel pump.
