Hey guys -and maybe a gal or two...
Anyone know what the normal operating egt's are for a stock 04 6.0L under normal load (just driving the truck on the highway) at say 60mph & 1500rpm's?
I had an egt gauge go bad on me -it wouldn't read over 400 degrees, prior to failure i would see about 7-800 degrees at the above speed parameters. I got a new gauge, the readings now are between 9-1200 degrees. I'm wondering what to expect, or suspect....
I know egt's depend on load and fuel delivery and such, just looking for ranges -if that exists..
Thanks, this give me a sanity check of sorts. I'm running 37", honestly i cannot remember my gear ratio, but it's stock, i'm guessing 3.73. I'm beginning to think the original gauge i had was defective and the one i have now is accurate. Banks Engineering was no help in filling me in on what values i should see (resistance wise) at the terminals to determine if my problem was the gauge or the probe. I'm wondering how they quality check their stuff b4 it leaves the assemble line...
If you had or could borrow a thermal gun you could shut the manifold and compare it to the guage or an thermal stick/heat cayon might even work. It's not a calibration and you would only be able to do it at idle but it should give you an idea if the guage is close.
What your EGT's at idle? I run at 300 cold in park and 500 warm in gear at a stop light.
