Thanks to any and all for your consideration. "SKEEFOO"
You can pretty much bolt the NP435 right into your 96, however you will find yourself having to crossbreed older parts into a newer vehicle. First off you will need to locate a clutch assembly and flywheel. The easiest way to set up the pedal assembly would be to locate a parts truck that has a manual transmission. The brake/clutch pedal assembly is a bolt in swap, pretty much self explanatory once you see how it bolts in. You will need the wiring harness for the neutral safety switch. For clutch operation the easiest way to go is hydraulic, the cutout for the clutch master cylinder is already in the firewall... remove the cover plate and bolt it in. Now comes the crossbreeding part, the New Process 4 speed has and external slave cylinder; the newer trucks used an internal slave. You will have to go with the external, IIRC you will need to use the older hydraulic hose from the master to the slave cylinder. You should be able to make the crossmember work with little to no modification. Also you will need to find a floor plate for the trans tunnel. It will have the cutout for the shift lever to come through, and last of all you may need to modify the shifter a bit. It seems to me that due to the long shift throw of the NP435 the shifter may hit the dash board... so bending and reshaping may be necessary for adequate clearance. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the info,Im gonna go with a zf5,or zf6 if it will work on a 300-6,Ive already found a few, confirm zf6 will bolt to a 300-6,If not,I know the zf5 will for sure,87-95,any thing else anyone knows will help, let me know.thanks to all contributors, "Skeefu"
The Zf will bolt up as long as it's from a 300,351 (small block). The zf6 is from the newer generation trucks, and wont work as the bell bolt pattern is different. I converted to a zf from a np435, and I love it, low 1st, and od, much better than the np for gas mileage.
Thanks for the 411,Im going to miami on sep 07,Ive got a zf5 lined up,Im gonna get a reconditioned zf5,just so im sure its all squared away, and once i tighten the last bolt, ill know its gonna ride for a while.i just hope the transition from the automatic to the manual goes smooth.wish me luck.
