I have a stock 352 and when I start it up first thing in the morning, the distributor vibrates very bad, and makes a rather loud noise. once the temp. rises, it is quiet. I popped off the cap and everything appears to be fine. I replaced the dizzy about 6 months ago and have had no problems with it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ya, sounds like the brass bushing in the dizzy is worn? Like Bear mentioned, lack of oiling will prematurely wear it out. Was it a reman dizzy? or another "used" one?
There should be a little felt pad to put oil on, that oils the top bushing. Various years had this either under the advance mechanism, or in an oil cup on the side of the distributor shaft.
There isn't any pressurized oil flow to the upper bearing, and on these older unit they had to be lubricated periodically. The rebuilt unit may have not been properly oiled before leaving the factory.

All the pad oils is the bearing surfaces between the shaft and the advance mechanism. Not the upper bushing. Some early dist. had an nipple with a cap that let you oil the upper bushing, then they added the spiral grooves in the dist. shaft to lift oil to the upper bushing so he nipple was deleted. There is a mod that installs a sealed bearing in the bushings place. really improves the dist. function and life.
