I have a 77 F-150 with a 460 and a C6 and am in need of a new radiator. Mine has that really thick one. My question is, where do I need to look for one? Online? Local radiator shops? Any brands to stay away from? Any recommended brands?
If you have a local radiator shop, that has a good rep I would try there. Only problem is they are getting harder and harder to find. Online is also good since that shows what is available for your truck.
This is absolutely unacceptable!!! Somebody answer!
I was looking at the BeCool aluminum radiators. The have a cross flow design as a direct replacement for the old down flow that is in you vehicle. They claim a 40 percent more efficient cooling capacity in the cross flow radiators and the plus is the weight. You can pick one of these radiators up with one finger. Try that with your existing radiator. They are expensive, around $500.00, but a good copper radiator is going to be pretty close to that. Other than that your only option is to try to find a legit local radiator shop and have yours rebuilt. I think the EPA has just about put all of the radiator shops out of business.
You can find BeCool radiators in just about any speed shop. Good luck
It all depends on your usage HogTied, Its an F150 w/a 460 and an auto, how and where do you drive it? full throttle up mountain passes with an 8000 lb trailer, commute traffic bumper to bumper in 100 degree weather, or perhaps its a weekend easy drive to the lake? You cant expect a bunch of quick, informed answers if you dont give more info. before your old radiator gave up the ghost how did it work? were you satisfied that it cooled adequately, did you have cooling problems and if so,were they under extreme conditions,or in day to day driving? I will assume you have access to a phone book and phone, you might also consider changing your tone a bit here, many people may find your approach a little rude!
I dont know about anyone else here, but i find it a little troubling that some posters get really irritated when they dont get answers in what THEY think is in an appropriate time frame. IF you want an answer, give as many details as you can, describe your problem, explain what/when/where,and then be PATIENT! Often overlooked as well is the fact that those here who answer questions just might have a life outside of this sight, little things like work, family, vacation, etc may take priority over answering questions. Another possibility involves the very real chance that no one currently viewing the question has a useful answer, maybe they dont have any relevant experience. Finally when no thanks whatsoever are given, and you come across as rude or abrasive, people who do have a solution may just figure you dont deserve there assistance....
