The switch opens and closes a relay for compressor control. The relay may be your problem. Also, the switches are not that hard to damage if you overtighten. The relay is usually on the pass fender close to the accumulator. You can locate the relay by feeling or listening for the click as you short across the pressure switch, engine off, ignition on.jd
I find it improbable that the switch is "shorting out".
The cycling switch does NOT control a relay, the relay is controlled by the PCM and is opened only under WOT (or similar) conditions. The output of the cycling switch is in series with the high pressure switch, then through the normally closed contacts of the WOT relay and to the clutch coil.
