Okay, I mounted a set of Blazer driving lights about two years ago, one finally burned out and the other but busted up by flying rocks so I bought a new set and mounted them. At first I just used the old wiring setup until the shop was empty since it was pouring ran. Would have stayed with the old wiring but we didn't do it right the first time. So I pulled out the old wiring and followed the new wiring step by step except for one thing. Instead of going to the starter (too darn hard to get to) with the power wire, I spliced it in with a hot wire off the battery because it had the inline fuse. So when I flip the switch on, it illuminates the switch, but does nothing with the lights. I've switch the wires around on the back on the switch every way possible and I still have no lights. What is it that I've done wrong? I've got the lights (grounded by the way) pluged to one another then running back to the switch, and then the hot wire running to the switch also. And I've got a ground wire hooked to the switch too. Am I doing something wrong here? This is really getting irritating. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried drawing yourself a schematic for what you have done, sometimes it help to have what you are trying to do down on paper in front of you.
It could also be that your supposed to go to the starter for a reason.

You're talking about the lights on the Roll bar above the cab?
Or are they on the bish guard kinda thing.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Mar-02 AT 00:39 AM (EST)]A switch with a light in it has a source and a load side.Could these be reversed?Also on any of the fords I have worked on the starter only has power when you are cranking.Going to the starter for power sounds like directions for a GM.The battery side of the starter relay is a good place to get a 12v source on a ford.

Nope, haven't drawn in out yet but I might just give that a try.

I've got the lights mounted down on my front bumper cause they are just regular auxilary driving lights.

Its really frusterating because far as I can tell its exactly the same as the first set except one noticable difference. On the first set the lights did not have an individual grounding for each light. The new set does.

I have the old grounding wire from the first set that grounded the switch and I've tried using it and not using it and still nothing. I'm beginning to go insane with this. Thanks again guys.

Have you tried grounding each individual light to the frame, instead of grouping them together?

Are you sure the ground for the lights is good? The ground to the switch is to lite the switch up. Since it lights that ground is good and the 12 volts to the switch is good.
So try hooking a jumper/booster cable from the battery negative to the ground for the lights and see if they work. Or hook the cable to the battery plus, and being careful not to touch any metal grounds, touch the lights positive wire and see if the lights come on.
Could it be possible the switch is bad or maybe the bulbs are loose in the lights?

Each light has an individual ground that I grounded to the frame. See...the odd part is like I said before...with the wiring from the original set it worked fine but when I put in the new wiring it all of a sudden doesn't work right so still trying to figure it out. Umm...I could try running to the negative for ground and try it. Pouring down rain right now so will have to give it a try in a few days when the weather is better. Thanks guys.

Well everyone, kind of got some good news. I finally got some time and decent weather to go check the wiring on my lights again. Swapped some wires around and stuff and got the lights to finally light up. But now a minor problem. Actually same problem I had with the first set before they got broke. The darn switch doesn't light up now like it did before I got the lights hooked up. Any other suggestions or should I just be happy that my lights work now? Thanks again everyone.

Is this an Illuminating switch or is the light beside the switch ?

Yes, the switch is an Illuminating Switch. Its just a cheap one that you can find at almost any store and with almost any Blazer light set up. Just a single rocker illuminated. I'll try getting a pic of the switch and the wires in the back ASAP.

One goes to ground and the other one(power)T's into the power wire that goes to the lights >after the switch
