What tranny?
Hey,

Does anyone know what transmission a 85 ford f150 have, it is a 4 speed overdrive...

The easiest way to figure out what trans you have is to get the VIN number and put it through the VIN decoder here on the site.

Automatic/w od would be an AOD. does your selector say P/R/N/od/D/1 if it does, no 2nd gear selection its an AOD
and the trans pan will be pretty square with METRIC stamped on it

Thanks, Yes it does say that...P/R/N/OD/D/1, and it says metric on the pan...so you must be right. Thank you!

not if you wanna tow or hot rod the engine. for a stock pickup that you haul a load of leaves to the dump and crap like that they work fine. i had an 85 with a 302/AOD. It had high miles and it and i never had to rebuild it. i didnt tow very much with it, i dont think the previous owner(s) did either. only a flat 4 wiring hook up and no reciever hitch. my old man has an 84 with AOD too, never been rebuilt, also not too much towing. both 2wd's

The AOD is good for gas mileage, but a C6 will out last several motors.

Early AODs are troublesome. '88-93 had some or most of the issues fixed.

If it is working ok, best let it be. If you want to make some changes, these transmissions can be improved and beefed up.
