I called a guy about a used f 250 hes selling from his home.He says the trucks not registered but the titles in his name. But to get a title you have to register it and he just bought it in march.so im guessing hes lying.Does this sound odd to you or is it just me?
could be that he bought the truck, the title was signed over to him, but he just hasnt recorded it yet. if thats the case he will have to get it recorded before he can sell it to you. its legal to own a car but not register the title, you just cant drive it. if you try to sell it without recording it its considered an open title and can get you in some deep trouble.
i know a lot of people that do that down here. they buy a car to fix up and know its going to take them years to fix it up to where its driveable. so they just hold the title until the car is ready to drive and then go record it. that way they dont waste a years tag with the car sitting in the garage. and in tn if the tag expires you have to fill out a bunch of paperwork to reapply, tell them why the car was sitting, etc and then buy a new tag plus new registration.
