How do you remove the pump in the windshield washer reservoir so it can be replaced?

Isn't there a spring clip -like a star washer- that holds the pump in?

This doesn't answer your question; but, when I tried to get the pump and jug apart, the pump was trashed and the brittle plastic jug went into a hundred pieces; that was probably fifteen or more years ago.

Ever since, my washer-fluid reservoir has been the gallon-jug that the fluid came in.

I have a lid with an X cut in the center that the hose is pushed through to reach the bottom of the jug.

I have one of those generic fit-all washer-pumps that works far better than any factory washer I have ever used.

I have been keeping my eye out for a neat long square jug that will fit in a certain place; but until then, the one that comes with the fluid will suffice.

There is a goofy lock-type washer. I replaced mine several years ago in my 85. The pump itself was "froze" in ther good, but I eneded up getting it out and put a new one in. On my 86, I just wwent w/ a generic external pump and it works great and was easy to install.

Is the washer behind the pump and how did you get it out?

I got the weird ring out that was in front of it.

May want to try one of those funky square gallon milk jugs. I find them at Sam's Club right now.

Once you get that large funky looking retaining ring out you just pull the motor out. They do get stuck in there pretty good, you might try squirting some lubricant down in there. I just had to remove the one on my capri(exact same bottle/motor setup) since the motor stopped spinning. I got lucky and it just had some calcium buildup. Once I cleaned it up, it worked like new again.
