please explain dual batteries
It came stock with a single battery.
I am aware of the isolators that are used for this,
allowing one battery for starting, the 2nd for accessories,
and the alternator keeps both charged at the same time.
Before I buy the isolator and 2nd battery, though, I wanted to
ask if there's anything else I needed? I guess I'm just unsure
on how the system knows which battery is which. Is it all handled
by the isolator, or is there some additional wiring that i will
need to do.
Thanks,
-Ferrite
The isolator is the big thing by keeping the batteries apart, the
alternator charges them both at the same time.
The need for an aux battery is for a trailer/camper/or accessories like a winch.
For camper lights and water pump, I have a R/V deep cycle battery.
In the winch application you will need a relay to give full power to the winch using a car style battery with lots of cold cranking amps.
What I do, is connect the stereo and any other accessory
to drain the aux battery. For a battery to last, you have to have a cycle of charge and drain.
If I need the power from the aux battery to start the vehicle,I use booster cables.
