I started this on another thread that had worn out its time so Im reposting it fresh. Sorry for any that have read it already In the last few weeks I put in....Stage two injectors, new glow plugs, autometer three pod gages, a new 17* hpop, A d66 turbo, DP tuner and new up pipes. I can black entire neighborhoods with the smoke but I have unreal EGTS and at most 15-17PSI boost. I can barely run the truck alone at interstate speeds with out exceeding 1200 degrees. It sucks. While towing my 5000# trailor its rediculous!! I am wondering if I went to far. I have all of the components to install a 6.0 intercooler and that will be next on my list but I think my boost is way to low from the fuel Im providingi and what Im reading on here. I drive by the Pyro every time I go anywhere and it sucks!! Where is my EBPV loacated at? I read in an earlier thread that the senor can become plugged. Where is it found on a 97? Im open to any and all suggestions.
Thanks in advance to all. May you all be the next american bachelor.
If you have a d66 turbo, I think your ebpv is gone. You must have a boost leak somewhere. there is no way your truck is only making 17 pounds boost. Mine makes that completely stock.
Check you up pipes and manifolds for black soot. Thant will tell you where your leak is. My truck has a small up pipe leak and I can still get over 20 with no problem with the mods in my sig. make sure you have no air restrictions too and all you intake boots are nice and tight.
There is definitely something wrong with your set up. Not your parts just like already said, Preturbo exhaust leak or boost leak. All the smoke seems like you are getting plenty of fuel just not the air you need to burn it. Could also be a turbo issue but I have not heard of any D66's bad out of the box.
Thank for the replys. Ive checked the up pipes and exhaust manifolds and they are clean of soot. I had just replaced the up pipies and gaskets when I put all of this in. Ive also checked the intake boots and they are in good shape. Is there a way to check and see if the turbo is working properly? Is there anything that could be clogged or something I can check that might be leading to my problem?
Are you still running stock exhaust? Maybe that crapping muffler or the resonator is clogged up? I've seem them explode before. Probably not the problem, but just throwing it out there.
[QUOTE=Aireeek;6434943]I guess I should have added I have a 3 inch downpipe into a 4 inch exhaust with no cat and a 6637 open air intake.
I know having a free flowing intake and exhaust makes a big difference, but I doubt it would cause what your having.
I was riding in an old GMC detroit diesel one time loaded with a couple tons of sand going up a huge hill when the resonator/muffler literally blew up. We thought we blew a tire or something. There was black smoke everywhere. Long story short the truck ran a lot better after that.
I'd go back and check the turbo, sounds like you've ruled out boost leaks.
It does. I have 7 positions on my dp tuner chip and I have low boost and EGT problems in all of them. I tired to tow in the heavyest tow setting last weekend with my 5000# trailor and I still could not exceed 15 pounds of boost and I could barely run at 60 without exceeding 1200*. Im going to change out my air filter today. Its less than 1 year old but Im on dirt alot so I my not be flowing as much as it could. I hooked my boost gauge up to the Y-pipe by the way.
