This may sound like a really stupid question buuuut is the very large plug with the very large sqaure over 1" the drain plug on the back of the rear cover? It looks enormous compared to the fill which I think is the small plug about half way up the back.
I never worked on the independent rear models and do not want to screw up!
Any external way to identify if I have an LSD or not?
your right. on a regular truck like the F150, you remove the rear cover and clean inside. on the EXP independant you have an aluminum box rear pumpkin. There is a large plug at the bottom to drain, and the normal 1/2 inch pipe plug to fill about half way up. i use the 3/8 ratchet to remove the top plug, i forget how big the bottom is, if it is 1/2 inch ratch or i think you need a 3/4 square adaptor for the ratchet. i normally park front end up a little so everything runs to the back and drains good. let it set for 20 minutes to get everything out. THEre should be a sticker on the door that tells you if you have LS or not. EIther way, put 75 w 140 FULL synthetic oil in the back, and a 7 oz tube of friction modifier that you can get at Auto Zone. It helps with the gear whine even if you dont have a LS axle.
There is a tag on the rear diff. The first thing on the tag will either be 3 55 or 3L73. The L in the 3 73 means limited slip. the numbers are the gear ratio
