Door Cracks 97-01 F-150 Ext. Cab's

Hello to you all. I have a 97 F-150 Ext. Cab w/ an 8' bed. It is not a 4x4. I have a crack in my drivers door which extends from the window edge and goes in (out) toward the door edge. I have contacted Ford and talked to their Service Reps in Toronto Canada. They have told me that the cost of repair will be all mine and that Ford believes that it is not something wide spread and is not needed to be addressed as a recall. I am going to try to fix this for all of those people who have these problems and have not fixed them or have at their cost. Here is what I need: 1. Your Name. John M. Doe
2. Your Mailing Address
3. Your Phone Number (will be kept confidential and only
given to Ford Company Service or a Congressional Rep.
4. Your VIN #
5. Your make, model, and yr of vehicle.
6. Whether or not you have contacted Ford Service.

All information that you send to me will be kept in the stictest of confidence. I will not give any information out to anyone that you do not give expressed permission to that I have not stated in this posting. When you email me please state in the subject line the following: Door Cracks, or Cracks. Anything with door cracks will be fine. I will have it all sent to a special folder. When this information is all compiled I will contact the represenatives of Ford and see what they have to say. I will notify each person when I do this. I thank you for in advace for your help in this matter that concerns us all. Hopefully we can get these issues resolved and not have to pay for anymore repairs out of our pockets.
Sincerely,

That Ford service rep is either lying, is new on the job or is completely ignorant of the facts. It is a widespread problem that seems to happen to the majority of the trucks. There is a fix available:

Give him the following info:

TSB 01-2-6: It addresses both door replacements (for cracked
doors) and retro-fit kits (for doors that haven't cracked).
The reinforcement part number is: 1L3Z-15202W06-AA

This TSB was just released in February. If he denies it's a widespread problem have him stop by here and ask the users how many of them have it. Ask him if he wants a copy of my survey results.

The fellow from Ford is a |!"/$%?&*()_ lier! I have a 2000 and it has the crack. I dare him to call me and tell me it is not wide spread. I live in Windsor Ontario and let me tell you it is common. I had one on my 97 too. Post his phone # and I will contact him myself and advise him. If it is not wide spread why did the engineers at the Norfolk plant work for years to find a fix?

Kindest regards

Jean Marc Chartier

Door Cracks 97-01 F-150 Ext. Cab's

UPDATE:

I went to the local Ford Dealer with the information about the TSB that is listed in one of the replies. He showed me in the TSB that it is only covered on vehicles with a 3 yr/36k mile warrenty still on the truck. Since my truck is a 97 and has 57,000 miles on it, it is not covered. I have reported this problem since it had 44k miles on it. They said they would still be happy to fix it for me if I was willing to pay for it. Guess, I will just have to live with the crack in the door. Ford will not fix a problem that is their fault when the vehicle is out of bumper to bumper warrenty.

Ask them to speak to the regional service rep. He/She may be able to work something out.

Door Cracks 97-01 F-150 Ext. Cab's

My friend just pointed out to me that my '98 (that I bought two weeks ago) does indeed have the crack like everyone else. He used to be a mechanic at the local Ford dealership and said there is a "silent" recall on this. He said if you bring it to the dealers attention they should fix it. He didn't say whether or not it had to be under warranty. There has to be enough of us with this problem that maybe a class action suit should be taken up. Any lawyers out there with a 150?
My rear end in this thing (4.6, 3:08 rear end, 4 spd auto) also has a high speed whine which in my opinion should also have a recall. He said they fixed a bunch (the carrier or pinion bearing is bad) of them although the service writer, at the local Ford dealership, said they hardly had any problems.

Update 2:

I did contact the regional rep and they told me that they talked with a traveling inspector of theirs (engineer) and have decided that if this is to be fixed then it will come out of my pocket. I asked them how they could make this decision without seeing my vehicle and the crack for themselfs. They told me that they did not have to see it. That the traveling inspector had all the information that they needed to make the judgement. This came from their Toronto office. Guess we should pool all of our information on this subject since we are not getting anywhere with Ford about it and give that information to our Congressional Represenatives. I am sure they would like to add some fuel to the fire burning under Ford for the Recall of the tires that they had just a few months ago. Hopefully this will work out so that all of us with vehicles out of Factory warrenty will be able to get a problem that should not be there fixed without having to pay for it ourselfs.
Good Luck to all of you and thanks for your help and information.
If you would like to send any of the information that I asked for from my origanal post you can send it to my email address of: msrosey at earthlink.net I will compile that information and forward it to my local Congressional Represenatives. If you want to do the same I will be happy to forward you my information too so that you can do the same. Maybe if we squeek enough the wheel will get some grease.
Sincerely,
Michael
