I own a 2002 F 150 & would like to have the feature of day time running lights. Has anyone done this to a 2002 F 150 ? I have had no success with Ford Motor Company or the local dealer. thanks, Ben Hark, Charleston, WV 304-925-0265. bhark@charter.net
Charleston WV... we're basically neighbors... I grew up in Huntington.
Anyway... I like the idea of a trade. I'll trade you my '99 for your '02... and because I'm a nice guy, I'll buy you a full tank of gas! I'll even give you my payment book and let you keep yours! Let me know if you're interested. haha
Seriously, contact South Point Ford (740) 894-FORD (kinda sad that I have the dealership # memorized... but I talk to them alot!), they are located across the river from Huntington WV. I had a recall on my running lights and they were the only dealership who had a clue, perhaps they can help. Ask for Anthony.
Now this used to be true, and it still should be...
Ford wired all the trucks for DRL. The Canadian versions got the DRL module. On the rest of them they just slapped a jumper plug where the DRL module should be. So, you guys could swap DRL module for jumper (if they are the same plug) and it should work out great.
Wow...Didn't know this thread was going. I asked this and another question in the general forum. It turned out to be quite a debate!
Is it a harness (or plug?) with a transistor/transformer or relay?
It sounds pretty simple to do...I would like all my fords to have DRL's. And how does this work with the auto on feature?
Deb, The only Ford Dealer that seems to know anything is a Canadian dealer. They tell me if the wiring harness is present, the only thing needed is a module. I may have to drive to Canada to find out. Also, another local Dealer says they can order the necessary parts, although I have heard nothing yet. Thanks, Ben
I've got a '95 F150, and added a DRL module back in '98. I called a Canadian Ford dealer, since the local guys (Dallas, TX) were of no help. All I had was the base part number (15A272, from memory) from my Body/Chassis service manual. The Canadian dealer I called was Oakridge Ford in London, Ontario (Parts, 519-472-4120). I couldn't buy the part directly from them (trade or customs laws between Canada and US, go figure), so they pointed me to a Canadian company called RCO, that mainly deals in Motorsport parts. I can't remember their phone number right now, but the parts guys at Oakville Ford should have it. I called RCO and gave them the part number that the dealer's parts guy gave me, and they ordered it and shipped it on to me. It was pretty painless. Installation took about 10 minutes (remove the jumper connector, plug in the module, mount it to the radiator support). I haven't noticed and problems with bulb life, either. They're not as bright as some I've seen (Saturn comes to mind, as they're pratically blinding), so my guess is it's a 4V DRL, as opposed to a 6V setup. The module itself is about 3 x 3 x 1 inches, in a finned black cast aluminum housing, with all the electronics potted (epoxy-filled) in. The box was marked "Made in UK".
Good luck getting your DRLs going. If I'm not mistaken, I've seen DRLs listed the Ford accessory catalogs. I see an occasional F150 with them. Oakville Ford's website is below.
